Health Equity and Human Rights in Public Health

The Public Health World Conference (PHWC) 2026 session theme, "Health Equity and Human Rights in Public Health,” aims to support the creation of a just and humane healthcare system that provides equitable access to healthcare for everyone. The session will discuss social justice and health disparities and detail efforts to make the healthcare system equitable for all people.
 
At PHWC 2026, experts from around the world will gather to present strategies for addressing health disparities and protecting vulnerable people by incorporating human rights-based approaches into public health. In addition, the session will highlight efforts underway worldwide and demonstrate how different groups are working together to achieve health equity for everyone.
 
The essential aspects of safeguarding health as a fundamental human rights include working together to develop policies/approaches that are inclusive and equitable in their resource allocations and will contribute to establishing effective accountability systems. Discussions focused on various systemic impediments, including discrimination, poverty, and inadequate access to health services. Through examination of various international programs that have demonstrated the ability to achieve equity through community involvement and/or policy changes, participants will explore potential strategies for furthering these kinds of activities and implementing plans to enhance legal systems, advocacy efforts, and inter-sectoral collaboration to protect vulnerable populations. Data and research will also serve as major points of emphasis within this session. The overall intent of this session is to promote dialogue, agreement formation and collaboration as we work together to build a global healthcare system that is fair and equitable for all.
 
Health equity can be achieved by addressing systemic healthcare access and outcomes differences. This Public Health World Conference (PHWC)session will examine policies that ensure equitable distribution of health resources. The experts will discuss the contribution of legal frameworks, advocacy, and government programs towards health equity. The session will feature case studies of successful healthcare access programs in marginalized populations. Attendees will learn about strategies to eliminate racial, gender, and economic disparities in healthcare. The role of community-based organizations in addressing health inequities will also be explored.
